Consulting

I ran the company. Now I'm the advisor I needed, and wish I had.

Outside perspective, strategic counsel, and someone who will tell you the truth - for owners running companies that matter.

The Situation

You know how to run your business. That's how it got here. But something's shifted. If any of this sounds familiar:

  • Revenue is flat when you know it should be climbing
  • You're working harder for less return than you used to
  • Something's off and you can't quite name it
  • Your team agrees with everything you say
  • Your competitors are doing something that's working, and you can't figure out why it's working for them and not you
  • You need someone you trust to weigh in, and you don't have that person

You are not the problem. Your proximity is.

The Real Issue

Every owner who has run a business for more than a few years develops blind spots. Not because they're bad at their job. Because they're too close to it.

You see your product the way a parent sees their child. Your customers see it the way a stranger sees a stranger's child. Both views are real. Only one of them is buying.

My job is to see what they see, name what they're feeling, and bring it back to you clearly.

The Approach

I don't believe in frameworks as belief systems. I see most frameworks as tools for building. Not as identities to defend. Just tools. Use them when they work. Replace them when they don't.

What I bring isn't a methodology. It's a decade of building companies, failing publicly, partnering with the people who did it better than me, and writing a book about what actually separates the owners who grow from the owners who stall.

Most businesses know more about themselves than they know how to show it. Most owners know more about their business than they know how to see it. That's where I help.

The Work
Work I've Done

Pure Fidelity Turntables

Vancouver. Global customer base.

I'm their CMO, embedded and ongoing.

When people hear we're a two-man team, they assume a much larger operation. That's the goal. We've built a brand presence online that punches far above its weight in a space that still defaults to print advertising. Pure Fidelity now ships internationally, gets covered by the leading audio publications, and competes head-to-head with brands ten times its size.

Zanoaga Suites

Real estate and property management. Edmonton.

"I have worked with Joe on many projects and different fields of work from Real Estate dealings to Property Management. My businesses have grown and benefited greatly from the principles and processes that he has helped implement."

Who This Isn't For
  • Owners looking for a cheerleader. I'll tell you the truth.
  • Anyone who thinks they need more information to act. You probably don't.
  • Anyone who wants me to run their marketing end-to-end. That's End Goal Media - a different thing, different page.
  • Businesses where the stakes haven't gotten big enough yet. This work pays for itself in situations where a single strategic decision can meaningfully change the math.
Common Questions
Who do you work with?

I work with business owners who have been doing the strategic thinking alone for too long - people running real businesses with real revenue who need someone to think alongside them. Within that, my work tends to concentrate in three areas: audio and audiophile brands looking to grow without traditional advertising, craft-led companies with strong products but inconsistent customer acquisition, and small-to-mid-size service businesses.

What's the difference between you and a marketing agency?

A marketing agency executes campaigns. I think alongside you about whether those campaigns are even the right thing to do. My role is closer to a strategic advisor, fractional CMO, or sounding board than a tactical service provider. Whatever you actually need, we figure out together - sometimes that means bringing in execution help through End Goal Media, my creative services agency, or working with your existing team. The strategic thinking stays with me. The work stays with us.

How much does business consulting in Kelowna cost?

The Strategy Call is $1,500 for a 90-minute session focused on one specific problem. The Deep Dive (a 2-4 week comprehensive business review) and The Advisory (monthly ongoing strategic relationship) are sized to the situation, with pricing discussed after a short initial conversation. Most consulting engagements with me fall in the range that makes sense for businesses where a single strategic decision can meaningfully change the outcome.

What is a fractional CMO and is that what you do?

A fractional CMO (Chief Marketing Officer) is an experienced marketing executive who works with a company on a part-time or ongoing basis, providing senior strategic leadership without the cost of a full-time hire. I currently serve as embedded CMO for multiple international audio brands. The Advisory engagement on this page is the consulting equivalent of fractional CMO work for owners who want that ongoing strategic relationship.

Do you only work with businesses in Kelowna or Western Canada?

Not at all. Most of my consulting clients are based outside my city - some in different countries entirely. Business problems are universal and know no borders. The Strategy Call and Advisory engagements are conducted by video. The Deep Dive can include an in-person visit where that makes sense, or run remotely. I'm based in Kelowna, BC and relocating to Edmonton in late 2026, but my work travels with me.

How do I know if I should hire you versus a different consultant?

Three signs this work is right for you: (1) You're running an established business with real revenue and real complexity, not pre-revenue or just starting out. (2) You want someone who'll tell you the truth, not validate decisions you've already made. (3) You're comfortable with strategic thinking, not just tactical recommendations. If any of those three don't fit, I'm not the right consultant for you and I'll say so on our first call.
